The Soviet basketball legend Aleksandr Petrov was born 14 May, 1939 in Baku, Soviet Union. The 208-centimeter-tall center spent the majority of his career with Dynamo Moscow (1957-1961, 1963-1966), while also playing a highly successful single seasons with Dinamo Tbilisi (1961-1962), and CSKA Moscow (1962-1963).
In 1961, Petrov made his EuroLeague debut with Dinamo Tbilisi team. He played just two seasons in th EuroLeague, winning a title in each of those – one with Dinamo (1962), one with CSKA Moscow (1963) team. In 15 games Petrov played in the EuroLeague, he scored 144 points, averaging 9.6 points per game.
Petrov was a regular member of the Soviet Union national team, winning 4 consecutive Eurobasket titles from 1959 to 1965. In his EuroLeague and international games from 1959 to 1965, Petrov scored 729 points in 71 game.
