Apostolos Kontos

The Greek basketball legend Apostolos Kontos was born 22 November, 1947 in Nea Filadelfia, Greece. The 194-centimeters-tall shooting guard spent the majority of his career with the Panathinaikos (1969-1983) team, ending his career with AEK Athens (1983-1987), and earning his fame as one of the greatest scorers in the history of Greek basketball.

In 1969/70 season, Kontos made his EuroLeague debut with Panathinaikos, playing two games and averaging 19.5 points per game as PAO saw an early exit from the tournament. His next EuroLeague journey during the 1971/72 season was the best in his career as Panathinaikos reached the semi-finals with Kontos averaging 11.8 points per game and finishing season Top 20 in scoring. In total, the Greek forward played 10 seasons in the EuroLeague, scoring 1012 points in 53 games and averaging 19.1 points per game.

Kontos was a prolific scorer who finished his career as one of the greatest Greek League scorers with 8114 points in 383 games. His efforts helped Panathinaikos to win 9 Greek League titles. Due to disciplinary issues, Kontos internationally played just in two Eurobasket editions, averaging 7.3 points per game.

In his EuroLeague, FIBA Saporta Cup, FIBA Korac Cup, and international games from 1969 to 1986, Kontos scored 1707 points in 91 games. Twice, he finished season Top 20 in scoring in the EuroLeague.
