Ivo Daneu

The Slovenian basketball legend Ivo Daneu was born 6 October 1937 in Maribor, Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The 184-centimeters-tall combo guard was one of the leading Yugoslav basketball players of his generation. During his career, Daneu played for two teams – Branik Maribor (1949-1956) and AŠK Olimpija (1956-1970), winning 6 Yugoslav League titles with the latter.

In 1958, Daneu made his debut in the EuroLeague. In total, the Slovenian guard played 4 seasons in this competition, averaging 25.2 points per game. He twice led the Olimpija team to the EuroLeague semi-finals stage. In all 4 of his seasons in the EuroLeague, Daneu was ranked among the Top 20 scorers and in three of those seasons, he finished the season in Top 5.

The Slovenian guard was a regular Yugoslav national team member, regularly winning medals in the EuroBasket, FIBA World Cup and in the Olympic Games. In 1970, Daneu was a member of the Yugoslav team that won the FIBA World Cup.

Daneu retired from basketball the same year, at the age of 33. In his EuroLeague and international games from 1957 to 1970, Daneu scored a total of 1697 points in 122 games.
