Jef Eygel

The Belgian basketball legend Jef Eygel was born 5 March, 1933 in Antwerp, Belgium. The 184-centimeter-tall point guard spent the majority of his career with his hometown team – Antwerpse BC (1950-1968). He finished his career with Racing Mechelen (1969-1970) at the age of 37.

In 1958, Eygel made his debut in EuroLeague. In total, the Belgian guard played 8 seasons in the EuroLeague, averaging 14.4 points per game and twice finishing the season in the Top 10 in scoring. Eygel had a very successful career in the Belgian League, winning 7 titles.

In 1952, Eygel played in the Olympic Games, averaging 5.7 points per game. He also played in 5 EuroBasket editions (1951, 1959, 1961, 1963, 1967) with the Belgian national team, averaging 6.8 points per game. In his EuroLeague and international games from 1957 to 1970, Eygel scored a total of 804 points in 79 games.
