Nikola Ilov

The Bulgarian basketball legend Nikola Ilov was born 30 April, 1932 in Pleven, Bulgaria. The 187-centimeters-tall combo guard was a part of the Academic Sofia team that enjoyed success in the early editions of the EuroLeague.

Ilov made his EuroLeague debut in the inaugural 1958 season, helping Academic to reach the Finals, scoring 150 points in 10 games, averaging 15.0 points per game. He was among the leading EuroLeague scores the next season as well, as Academic once again reached the Finals, eventually losing to ASK Rīga, led by Jānis Krūmiņš.

In his EuroLeague and international games from 1956 to 1960, Ilov scored 342 points in 33 games. The Bulgarian guard had a great consistency during his European journey, being among the Top 20 best scorers in all three of his seasons in the EuroLeague.
