The Italian basketball legend Riccardo Pittis was born 18 December, 1968 in Milan, Italy. The 203-centimeter-tall small forward had a long and successful career, playing a total of 20 seasons for two renowned Italian teams – Olimpia Milano (1984-1993) and Benetton Treviso (1993-2004).
Pittis began his career with the famous Olimpia Milano team in 1984/85 season, at the age of 16. Together with Olimpia, Pittis enjoyed plenty of success, winning 4 out of his 7 Italian League titles, as well as two consecutive EuroLeague titles in 1987 and 1988. The Milan-born forward, however, did not play an important role in these successful runs, being a role player and enjoying limited minutes. With Olimpia, he also won a FIBA Korac Cup in 1993, averaging 13.3 points per game.
After this title, Pittis moved to Treviso and joined the Benetton team. The Italian forward played the next 11 seasons in Treviso, winning three Italian League titles, and regularly playing in the EuroLeague. He also helped Benetton to win two FIBA Saporta Cup titles, as well as reach the EuroLeague Final in 2003. A year later, Pittis retired from basketball at the age of 36.
As a member of the Italian national team, Pittis played in one FIBA World Cup (1990) and 4 Eurobasket editions (1991, 1993, 1995, 1997). He helped the Italian team to reach two Eurobasket finals in 1991 and 1997.
In total, Pittis played 12 seasons in the EuroLeague, scoring 1744 points in 205 games, averaging 8.5 points per game. In his EuroLeague, Saporta Cup, Korac Cup, and international games from 1987 to 2004, Pittis scored 2634 points in 305 games.
